However, in some regions limitations to internet service might arise, as the aircraft is still on ground and has not taken-off yet. This is due to external factors. The internet service will be available once the aircraft has reached its flight altitude. Since there are a few regions that do limit the use of starlink internet while overflying their territories, limitations to the internet service might arise.
Charging options may be available depending on the aircraft type and cabin. Please check your specific flight details or onboard facilities for more information. Power banks may be carried in hand luggage. However, charging electronic devices using power banks on board is not permitted. For more information go to Electronic devices and batteriesThe link will be opened in a new browser tab.

Antennas on top of the aircraft communicate with fast‑moving satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). These satellites transfer data back and forth using radio signals and space-based laser links, before handing it over to ground stations connected to the global internet. This secure signal is then distributed through the onboard systems and shared via the cabin Wi-Fi router, similar to what you use at home. In this way, data travels from the ground to space and back to the aircraft, delivering the internet directly to your seat.

There can be several different reasons for this. For example, it may be that the aircraft has left the cruising altitude locally required by the legislators and, therefore, the Wi-Fi has been turned off. It is also possible that certain environmental conditions, such as storms or sunspots, impaired the connection or that the aircraft is flying over a country that has not granted Lufthansa a license. Of course, a technical problem cannot be ruled out as the cause.
The Internet connection on board is as secure as any other public hotspot. Nevertheless, we recommend that passengers use firewalls and anti-virus software to protect their personal data.
