Curtain Up: The Return of Opera and Classical Music

Classical music – whether opera or symphonic concerts – is enjoying a resurgence, and by the end of August, many fans will be saying “finally, the long summer break is over!” Frankfurt’s cultural season kicks off with several exciting highlights. In September, Frankfurt Opera presents two major premieres: Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa and Mozart’s rarely performed singspiel Zaide at the Bockenheimer Depot.

If you prefer classical music without vocals, Frankfurt has plenty to offer as well. September’s concert calendar features performances ranging from André Rieu at Festhalle Frankfurt to renowned violinist Daniel Hope at the Alte Oper (which, despite its name, is a concert hall rather than an opera house).

Discovery Art Fair: Contemporary Art for Everyone

Three days packed with inspiring art: from October 30 to November 1, the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt returns to the city. The event brings together around 100 exhibitors showcasing everything from sketches and sculptures to photography and large-scale paintings.

For emerging artists, the fair can be a valuable launchpad, while collectors – and those looking to start a collection – can discover original artworks at accessible prices. Established names are also regularly represented. Previous editions have featured works by artists such as Markus Lüpertz and Georg Baselitz.

Veggienale: A Fair for Vegetarians, Vegans, and the Veg-Curious

As the year draws to a close and temperatures drop, many people revert to heavier comfort foods and traditional meat-based dishes. If you are looking for healthier, lighter alternatives without sacrificing flavor, Veggienale is the perfect place to explore new ideas.

The fair takes place on November 14 and 15 at Frankfurt’s Campus Westend. Visitors can look forward to live cooking shows, workshops, and expert talks. Alongside practical tips for a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle, there will be plenty of opportunities to sample delicious vegan street food.
